Sun shines on first Glide Cycle

Wednesday, 21 June, 2017

Beaumont Hospital's Glide charity cycle departed Phoenix Park at 6.00am on Saturday 17th June for the 212km journey to Galway. The sun shone down all day long delivering a picture perfect ride for the team along the scenic back roads to arrive in Clara for their lunch stop at midday.

The was a wonderful atmosphere and camaraderie amongst cyclists who worked together to break down the distance and to ensure that everyone arrived to Galway safely.

Following a lovely dinner in the Harbour Hotel we returned to Dublin same night after a wonderful day in the saddle.

Special thanks to our race ambassador, Fran McDermott. Fran has been treated for both testicular and thyroid cancer in Beaumont Hospital and got in to cycling after reading Lance Armstrong's autobiography while recovering in hospital.

The funds raised through the cycle will begin the fundraising for a transperineal biopsy machine which will deliver a safer method for taking biopsies to diagnosis prostate cancer.

Congratulations to all who covered the distance last Saturday and we hope you can join us again for Glide 2018.
