Tracey's Story

“What can I say? Beaumont Hospital staff are my angels.”

“My name is Tracey Swan. I am 52 years old and from Gorey, Co. Wexford. I am sharing my personal story in the hope that it inspires you to support Beaumont Hospital Foundation.

On Good Friday 2024, I was leaving the gym when I noticed a strange tingling in my face. Sitting in my car, I struggled to speak; I could hear the words in my mind, but they wouldn’t come out. Alarmed, I called my fiancé, and we rushed to the nearest hospital in Wexford. After undergoing an MRI, I was transferred by ambulance the next morning to Beaumont Hospital.

It was there that I met Mr. Sattar and his incredible team. They discovered a 2cm calcified tumour in the front lobe of my brain. The news was overwhelming, but the care and compassion I received made all the difference. I spent two weeks in the Adams McConnell Ward awaiting surgery. Every moment was filled with reassurance that I was in the best hands possible. Eithne Dunne, a Clinical Nurse Manager, saw my fear on the morning of my surgery and comforted me in a way I will never forget. Her kindness gave me strength.

The craniotomy was successful, and while the road to recovery included stereotactic radiotherapy sessions, I am now back to living a full life—including returning to the gym, a place that brings me so much joy. Today, I attend six-month scans and remain deeply grateful to the incredible staff at Beaumont Hospital for saving my life.”

Stories like Tracey’s are only possible because of the exceptional care provided at Beaumont Hospital. But this level of care requires resources that often stretch beyond the hospital’s budget. This is where your support can make a real difference.
